“This mare is all pleasure bred. I had zero expectations of her doing this good.” Sophia Huff’s first horse turned out to have a heart of gold and more try than anyone saw coming — the two started out just playing around, and now they’ve broken into the 22’s together.
Sophia has qualified twice, but this is her first time making the trip to Springfield. She lives on the family farm, where everyone said there would never be a horse on the property. Then Sophia came along, and now there are four. She loves working cattle and roping to doctor them. Her grandma and grandparents got her into all of this and hauled her everywhere, and her heart horse Darby is the reason she’s where she is.
Her message is one for the whole barn aisle: “Keep your head up and don’t let people drag you down. You don’t have to have a fancy horse to take you far in this world.”
