Beau is all business the second he hits the arena. “He finds the barrel no matter the pen and gives his best effort every time,” Hazel Lewis says — and above all, he keeps her safe.
This is Hazel’s third year qualifying. Her first was on an Appaloosa named Rocky, who’s competing this year with a friend of hers. She boards with people she loves, and they spend enough time together to have family dinners.
She couldn’t name one person, so she named two — Cody and Cathy Shonkwiler, who sold her family a pony, held the end of the lead line while she rode, found her first horse to ride in Rocky, then helped find Beau.
