Meet Lauren Bair and Jasper — a gelding with a puppy personality right up until it’s time to run, and then he’s all business. Lauren has known him since he was just weeks old and owned him since he was four months. He’s her first true barrel and pole horse, and by her own honest telling, the two of them have put each other through the wringer once or twice. That’s how the good ones are made.
This is Lauren’s first time qualifying. She grew up on the same Indiana farm her parents still maintain today, and now she shares it with her two-year-old daughter and a new baby on the way. “I know not everyone gets that level of support,” she says. “It is a huge blessing.” Her mom is the one who made her the rider she is, and two horses share the credit — a white pony named Sugar and her first barrel horse, Silent Summertime.
Lauren will be seven months pregnant this August, so her first BOTB won’t look the way she pictured it. Her word to the rest of us: live life to the fullest and chase ALL of your dreams. She’ll be back for a redemption run.
