Shelby Beishlag & “Dexter” — My Mikados On Fire
Elmira, MI · Qualified at Raine N Dreams Farm
Shelby Beishlag got Dexter as a four-year-old. He’s nine now, and the running joke around the barn is that he puts in about 65% effort and still manages to win.
Shelby has qualified every year since 2021, and she’s bringing four horses to Springfield this year. But it’s last year that she’ll tell you about: the youth slot race win at BOTB, after months of struggling. “We were draw 1. As we were going up the alley my hands literally went numb and I just asked him to take care of me. And he did just that” — a 15.3 that held through 50 talented runners.
Her mom is the biggest reason she’s here. A pleasure horse trainer by trade, she hauls, saddles, and gives pointers every single day. And Shelby, who’s been starting colts since she was ten, credits every horse she’s ever thrown a leg over.
Her word to fellow riders is worth reading twice: “It’s never just you. I know how hard it is to watch everyone win while you can’t, but everyone will have those seasons. Who you surround yourself with will have the biggest impact on you.”
Welcome back, Shelby.
