Jim Nunley & “Shadow” — Belou Storm

Jim Nunley bought Shadow as a two-year-old and trained him himself. Shadow is 21 now — nineteen years together — and he still loves to run poles.
Jim qualified in poles last year but didn’t make the trip, so this will be their first year attending. And when asked about his biggest win, his answer is one of the best in the whole group: “Probably not the ‘win’ you’re talking about, but being able to still be competitive on my 21-year-old horse is pretty great.”
At the Nunley place everything is done as a family. “It’s a lot of work, but it’s what we do to spend time together.” His wife is the person who made him the rider he is — and Shadow is the horse who’s kept him growing for nineteen years.
