Holly Mohn & Gus-Gus is a Must Must to see at the BOTB

We don’t know a lot about Holly Mohn from Louisville Ohio besides she can run with the best of them!  She is a first time qualifier at the Best of the Best in Ohio Charity Barrel Race and we are happy to have her as a contestant.   We are looking forward to chatting with Holly  and her sister Kelley at the show and looking forward to her running as a Top Ohioian!

Holly Mohn and Gus Gus

How old is horse and How long have you 2 been a

team?

Gus-Gus is 8 yrs old, Liz Michael brought him back from Arkansas for me when he was a yearling and we have been together ever since.

Any quirks the 2 of you do before you run?

Just a good warm up with lots of circles and flexing

What do you feed your horse?

Lots of pasture and a mixture of sweet feed and Purina Ultrium

What is one secret training tool?

Patience and lots of time/repetition

How often do you ride in a weeks time?

I try to ride 4 times a week, whenever I am not working or going to school

If you could name one thing that made you the rider you are today, what would it be?

Well Amanda Zoldak (Kibler) gave me my first horse to ride in 4H and it just grew from there.  Eventually all three of my sisters joined in and started barrel racing.  After 4H I started going to some local IBRA/NBHA shows and then just continued from there.

What is your Favorite arena and why?

Well I like running in big outdoor pens, but Gus-Gus seems to prefer indoor pens like Circle G and Simmons.

Tell us something that not every one knows about you and

your horse?

I consider Gus-Gus my rescue horse; he was a thin, had a pot-belly full of worms, and scrawny when I got him as a yearling.  He was definitely not an impressive horse to look at.   Gus-Gus was really slow to mature and this is the first year we really started clinking together.  For the past two years we have been in the 2D/3D and just recently started placing in 1D/2D and here we are at the best of the best.  I am excited to see how the rest of this year turns out and look forward to next year’s shows.

Do you have any goals for you and your horse in the next year to come?

I am taking Gus-Gus to Congress this year for the first time.  It would be nice to place in the top ten down there.

What Charity would you like to support if you had the chance and why?

American Heart Association.  Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.  Their mission is to reduce disability and death from heart disease and stroke. Prevention is the key and knowing the early signs/symptoms (more than just chest/arm pain) of heart attacks can save lives.

What has been your all time favorite win as a rider. – Any horse, any time, any arena?

My best win of all time would be on my old horse, Shadow.  Down at the Ohio State Junior Fair we were grand champion in our class.  My whole family was down there and it was my last year in 4H.  Those were back in the days when we ran for ribbons and trophies and sported our bright neon nylon tack (Editors Note – I love to hear young people say that was back in the day – makes me feel young  those were the good ol’ days for sure – 8 classes one horse, one bit and ran everyone of them)

Thank you for your interview and we want to thank evepet palacery sponsor that helped out Team Marley this year!

Thank you Kelly Joyce and Pet Palace
